“Fifty pounds ought to last us a few days.” “Or even longer!”
According to the Bank of England, that amount would equate to about £2,925 today. Yeah, I think that could last a few days!! 😱

Dare I say I might actually like this one even more than the first book in the series?! I was completely captivated by the story, especially watching how the dynamic between Evie and The Villain continues to evolve. And honestly, him being so good with Evie’s little sister absolutely won me over. On top of that, I really loved the plot—diving deeper into The Villain’s backstory, going on the search for Evie’s mother, and learning more about Evie’s family made everything even more engaging. I’m already so excited to read the next book!

I'm starting to have difficulty putting the book down! It's been slow but now I'm so invested.

Wow—this was such an interesting read! I might be a little biased as a librarian, but I really enjoyed this deep dive into the importance of academia and the humanities during World War II. Librarians, academics, artists, and so many other professions had a significant impact on the war, yet their contributions aren’t talked about nearly enough. I’d definitely love to learn more about this topic!

“The war may have been fought on battlefields, but it was won in libraries.” As a librarian, I may be a little biased, but libraries are so badass.

This was a cozy and comforting fantasy to kick off the year! The story was filled with thoughtful messages that made me pause and reflect on society. It started a bit slow for me, but once it found its rhythm, I couldn’t put it down. Magic and baking make such a delightful combination, and I absolutely loved the bakery friends—especially Bob, the feisty sourdough starter!
