I am 24 years old, I have no money and no (job) prospects. I am already a burden to my parents and I am frightened.

This is the first romance novel I’ve read where one of the leads is the same age as me, and I feel geriatric. (Which, if 24 is geriatric, Brody might as well be a fucking corpse.)
I’m super excited to say I’ll be working as a high school library assistant starting next year, and as part of my preparation I’m trying to become more well versed and well read in Young Adult fiction! I was wondering if anyone could recommend their or their children’s favourite age appropriate books?? Ideally something more recent (think published in the last 5ish years) although if it’s older but you think still relevant I’d be happy to hear it! Very open to any graphic novels / manga you would recommend as these are all the rage at the moment. The school is currently building a brand new library, so we will be building the collection from the ground up. We will be working with grades 7-10 (ages 12-16) and creating a catalogue that reflects their age group / demographic. Appreciate any help you can offer :) Thank you PB family

My favorite recent YA is Just Happy to Be Here by Naomi Kanakia! YA books with trans girl heroines are so hard to come by, and Just Happy to Be Here is a worthy addition to the canon.
