Reading this so soon after reading Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte really highlights the differences in their writing. WHY is Emily's writing so hard to read compared to Anne's? I am really struggling to understand what she is trying to get across most of the time (and I am quite a good reader, not to toot my own horn lol), not to mention when Joseph is talking. I used to think it was just how they wrote at the time, but Agnes Grey was so easy to read and obviously written around the same time. So yeah idk it's just frustrating me atm

"We've talked about this," said Jamie mildly. "Murder can't be your first choice every time you don't like something."

"You've talked about it," Terracotta replied. "I still think it's a good first choice."

    Not the murderous 8-year-old 🤣

The way Liv and Thea are still putting Gavin in the same box as their dad, a serial cheater, is maddening! I have to keep reminding myself they are young and a little traumatized but sheesh, enough already. Also Liv, menacing Gavin is not the way to support your sister!

I’m getting kind of frustrated with Thea continuing to stonewall Gavin. I suspect that this will probably come up and be acknowledged (she will realize her lack of communication played a part in the breakdown of their relationship) but for now it’s really starting to irritate me, particularly her calling the shots and insisting her sister continue to stay with them, which is unlikely to be helpful and completely unfair!

Very much enjoyed! It’s a short novella, but it doesn’t feel truncated or abrupt in anyway, and was very sweet as well as spicy.

I enjoyed this one, though it had some pretty sharp angst-teeth when recounting their husbands’ betrayals (but that always gets me in the gut in general). Towards the end I could’ve done with less internal monologue, but overall it was appropriate for the characters/story and I appreciated their realizations about society, patriarchy, religion, and loyalty to self. I would’ve liked a little more of the romance, because what was there was good stuff. Overall a solid read.
