I love the use of background noise in the panels, it makes the scenes feel so much more full and immersive.

reading this with hindsight and or being able to notice his bias is so fascinating. with some historical relation, the way his narration about his upbringing is steeped in superiority about how upper class people behave, and the supposed 'heavenly beauty' bestowed on 'pure innocent children' and Elizabeth who was blonde and raised as a noble at first.
with the lens of how he treats the creature, these comparisons of class from the start and the pedestal Victor places himself, his parents and Elizabeth is interesting.

so grateful for this birthday book, a really heartfelt and wholesome dive into octopuses that just makes me love them more. and man the descriptions Montgomery writes about the different environments, ocean and aquarium - so beautiful.
