My first N.K. Jemisin. The narrative style feels clunky at times and the romance is not for me, but I enjoyed the portrayal of gods in this book and how unapologetic the lines of morality blur when it comes to them.

What do you do when it's the 1920s and your wife has "the melancholy?" Send her to an asylum on the moon which is also host to the grave of an eldritch spider.

This novella is dreamy, disturbing, and so freaking weird. Nathan Ballingrud's writing practically drips with gothic brutality and I enjoyed every second of it.
