this was a perfect book to set a great spooky, witchy vibe for summerween! five witches bound together through their pentam and their professor, still forced to be connected 18 years later even though they had no desire to be around one another since an incident occurred in the past. they have to now face their past that haunts them all in different ways and figure out wtf is going on!!

i loved the different personalities of each character. they were each their own person and together they were something different. also fun to have a character named rachel 🤭

this book gave me harry potter vibes sometimes, which i loved! there was a lot i wasnt expecting to happen and some things i was surprised DID happen. it wasnt as horror heavy as i thought it would be, but id definitely lean more towards the darker fantasy description of it!

wowowowow i had no idea what to even expect with this book. i had heard about for a while now and liked the idea of a kind of dystopian feminism book with so many different themes. it was a lot to take each when reading it, trying to understand different perspectives through the perspective of a young girl coming of age throughout her telling of her (and the 39 other women’s) story

these 40 women get the random and, initially, lucky shot to be free from the cage they had been trapped in for a long time, only to find out there was nothing else out there, no civilization that 39 of the women remember before being taken to the cage. the one young girl is taught about life before the cage, that she never got to experience (or remember experiencing), and grows up alongside these older women. she learns about math, reading/writing, important survival skills, and love, through the women and her relationship with them and with each other, realizing just how different she is from them all

it broke me seeing these women die one by one as they got older and the youngest girl was still growing and how she was kind of numb to the emotions all the other women felt, forcing her to take on a lot of dark, tragic responsibilities. it literally made me sob for 30 minutes at one point (maybe im just also unwell so i was bound to cry easily haha)

anyway, i could go on and on. it was very thought-provoking and heart-wrenching. i felt for this girl/woman a lot (even if she wouldnt have understood why)

oooooooo this book was so good!! my book bestie, sonia, recommended this and i’m so happy she did!! i loved this idea of a different kind of pandemic that seemed so unbelievable due to it sounding too folklore-ish and fantasy!! people were eating their words after realizing how true it was

i loved the various perspectives of different people throughout new york! a lot of diversity to let you see how different people were feeling about everything going on!

MY HEARTTTTTTTTTT!!!! just stomp on it and ball it up and throw it away. im DEVASTATED. i HYSTERICALLY sobbed last night for at least 30 minutes towards the end of the book. i knew it was going to be tragic but im not sure i originally expected THAT kind of tragic😩 i loved these characters more than i ever imagined. i laughed, got mad, blushed (a lot), was skeptical, and SO many more feelings throughout both books. what a great duology!! i MUST read more liv zander books at this point…i may be obsessed
