I was expecting a lot from this book, seeing how much I'd loved Cleopatra & Frankenstein which is one of my favorite reads ever.
I don't know if my high expectations killed it for me. Or the fact that the French translation did not exist yet and I had to read it in English. But I felt disappointed right from the start, and it took me months to actually get my head around to finish the book.
I like a slow story – but this was particularly slow, for a book of this length (ie. not very long). We already know what the book is about and the issues the characters are having, from the book's backpage cover. The book goes to great lengths about those struggles, without much progress, until the last 1/4 of the book. A slow story must go in par with a build-up – and that was missing to me.
Perhaps the summary was too revealing, and that was the real problem.
