It is really interesting to think about how the latchkey upbringing of kids in the 80’s was so horrifying to them in retrospect (especially with the rise of nation news and coverage of crimes affecting children), but was in the end what made them resilient adults. A whole era of mental illness was potentially born by trying to keep kids away from perceived danger. It’s a hard thing to confront as a parent because you know you will also make well-intentioned mistakes and you can only hope they don’t lead your kid to needing therapy. Hoping we as parents can find a way to bring back the magic of a simpler childhood.

Quite an interesting topic overall, but I will say that this could have been 50% shorter. Loads of repetition due to this being a research book. I advise to skip the introduction completely. I appreciated the many graphs included in the book. Would have been interested in having more data for youth in Asia.

Cannot say i was disappointed as I am no longer expecting much from the Millenium series. I wish they had stopped after the 4th one already, but this was by far the worst of the series and quite embarrassing that this even was greenlit for publishing. Of course we cannot have the same quality and style as the first ones, but this 7th book was itself a huge drop in quality compared to Lagercrantz's books. The insider's jokes do not belong in this book (ie. physical comparison to Noomi Rapace, etc.). I keep reading out of duty, because I am a huge fan of Lisbeth's character but even her personality did not shine through in this book.

This book was a pleasant surprise, absolutely loved it and wished it would have been 100 pages longer. Dialogues were quite good and original, and i love a good strong female lead :)
