This should be part of school curriculum. Set in the forgotten regions of the US, this swamp noir explores themes of social class and gender inequality, perfectly capturing modern day dynamics between men and women and studies the nature of feminism in all aspects. This is an unforgettable read with an unforgettable young protagonist and cast of characters both so unlikeable and dearly lovable. I smiled to myself, cried, and sighed. At its heart, it is a family saga about love, loss, abandonment, and redemption strung with a rural witchy atmosphere... loved it and I really think it would be valuable to teach in American classrooms.
