ykw i am growing quite fond of this Gradus fellow, in the way one becomes attached to a rather standoffish stray cat

I’m glad Grimes died. In fact, I hope he does it again.

I've seen a lot of people reading this recently and remembered how I wanted someone to discuss the "sapphic" part of the story with me! So I wanted to ask: what makes this a "romantic sapphic" story to you? (I've seen reviews describe it that way) Because I read it and didn't feel that at all... To me it just read like a man in the nineteenth century wrote a cautionary tale about a predatory lesbian and that felt quite homophobic to me... How do you reclaim that type of story? I'm asking because I want to see other perspectives. Or maybe someone has the same opinion as me? Did the version you read impact how you view the story? I've seen a lot of people read the version edited by Carmen Maria Machado. I read a regular version with no introductions...
