As a knitter and sewist, I’m being driven absolutely insane by the commentary on Natalie’s mother’s crafting. In the beginning of the book, her mother is described as crocheting hats, blankets, and socks for babies in the neighborhood. All fine, all good. At some point in the middle of the book Natalie asks her about her knitting. Again, all fine. A lot of knitters and crocheters can do both. THEN COMES THE EGREGIOUS PART: chapter 52, page 334.
“Through the phone, I could hear the steady click, click, click of my mother’s sewing needles as she knitted.”
THOSE AREN’T EVEN REMOTELY THE SAME THING! WHAT ARE WE SAYING?
