This book was super underwhelming for me. I had huge expectations and they were not met. I really liked the general concept and world building, but the execution was lacking.
The writing style was very confusing for me, I didnt like that it kept changing pov so smoothly that sometimes I had to reread 3 times to know in whose head I was. And I felt like it was too distant from the characters, so I couldnt emotionally connect. The characters itself were also not very developed. At the end of the book, a bomb could have dropped on them and I probably wouldnt have blinked twice. The trials were not really fun either, and the book was just too long. more. Overall, I did enjoy parts of it, and I will probably give the second one a chance, but given the hype and high rating it's getting, I really was expecting more.

Would love to see the Helm of Midnight by Marina J. Lostetter in this list. Super original magic system and amazing slow burn romance (on the side). Truly one of my favorite series right now and it's so underated (only 3k ratings on goodreads)!!
