I am trying to be open-minded, but I am 70% in and the whole time I am wondering why on earth am I spending my time reading about someone ruining their life in every way imaginable.

Maybe I have outgrown this mentally even though I'm in my early 20s, or I just haven't had this life experience (thank god) so I cannot relate to it. I understand that she is sharing her bad life experiences and I just hope that the book ends well and that she doesn't end up justifying all her terrible behavior.

I am just genuinely curious how and why did this book win National book award? Because honestly the writing isn't that great, there is so much information just dumped at you, it feels like being stuck on a bus with a random person who starts trauma dumping their whole life story to you and you can't do anything about it (except I can DNF it but I want to see how it ends).

Do share your views because I would love to understand and also not feel bad for spending my time and money on it.
