Let me just give it to you really quick because I have to dive into the next book ASAP. I literally got my lazy self out of bed to grab my ipad so I could write this review.

EVERYTHING IS CHAOS. EVERYTHING IS ABSOULUTELY HAYWIRE!!!! First off, Elena, how could you?!?! For MULTIPLE reasons. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID! Second, you are the definition of why I wait until series are completely out before starting them. I don’t know if I could ever forgive you if I had to wait months for the next book. And third, but most importantly of all, you are a sweet baby angel for gracing us with this mind baby and I will love you forever. Now back to the story review…

EVERYTHING IS CHAOS!!! Our boys and Aj are in some big prediciments. Stuff is hitting the fan. I don’t know where it is going to go from here. I was sobbing by the end of this book and my heart hurts. However, I am glad to report, dear friends, that my dedicated detective skills are still detectiving and I FREAKING CALLED IT!! What? You might ask? Well, finish the book and you will know exactly what I called.

That is it. That is my review because I am itching to read the next one.

I am completely and utterly consumed by this series. I don’t even want to stop devouring them long enough to review them but they absolutely deserve all of the hype.

So, we are back and AJ is being forced into the trials. Why? Because Desiel is a sadistic tyrant hellbent on proving his sons wrong and AJ can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble. She is also facing a stalker who suddenly dissapears and a detective who wants to turn her into an informant on the Crows and the Saints. No matter which direction she turns, she is royally screwed. The boys are completely obessesed with her and are fighting Diesel every step of the way with the trials, but they really have no say or choice in the matter. All they want to do is keep her safe and theirs, even if that goes against everything Diesel wants. My heart has been stuttering through this whole book. The secrets, the trials, the twists, all have my blood pressure too high for my own good and white knuckling my kindle. I knew there was going to be a big decision for Aj to make but I don’t know which I was expecting her to make. The end threw me for a loop for sure and I am amped to start the next book.

Here’s the thing, when I listen to a series on audio, they all blend together into one big book, so I can’t remember if some things happened in book one or two. Having said that, I am liking the series so far. I it really dark and taboo, which I love but there is also so much beauty in the story. One of the big plot points I was not expecting and everything after it has my heart gripped in a vice. The pieces are starting to fall into place and I have no idea what to expect from here. I can’t say too much more than that because I don’t want to give anything away, so on to book three I go.

    Tropes:

    • Why choose
    • Badass FMC
    • Enemies with benefits (kinda)
    • Gangs
    • Academy Bully
    • Haunted Pasts

When her father is murdered by the local gang, Ava Jade is offered an opportunity by her rich aunt, finish out her senior year at Briar Hall with no issues, and she will set her up for a new life. Gaining the attention of the Crows Corvus, Rook, and Grey was not part of the plan and can jeopardize everything.

I picked this series up on a whim going in completely blind after being in the worst slump and I am so mad I didn’t pick it up sooner!! I started it last night and couldn’t put it down. I have only read one other series with gangs involved, so this was absolutely a genre refresh. This one was plot heavy with just a dash of spice, but I have no doubt the spice will pick up as the series progresses. I knew Avade Jade was going to get herself into some sort of trouble, she can’t seem to avoid it, but I wasn’t expecting what she actually stepped in. Book two is going to be explosive.

Ava Jade Mason. Fiesty. Take no crap attitude. Stands on her own. Extremely stubborn. She is everything you want to be, except maybe the impulsivity and darkness within her. She is absolutely not letting these boys or Bri push her around and tell her what to do.

    The Crows

Corvus James- The leader. Cold and harsh. Calculating. He does nothing without planning and he was definitely not planning on finding anyone like Ava Jade. Rook Clayton- The loose cannon with such darkness inside. He is unpredictable but I feel like he is the most relaxed of the three. He plays with his darkness like it is an old friend. Grey Winters- All American with a history. We get a tiny glimpse into his story in this book and it devistated me. It is no wonder he has certian habits. The dynamic between the boys is perfect. They all have their flaws and trauma but they fit together so well and have eachother covered. I am so curious to see how each of their domanant feelings of Ava Jade will play out between them. They really play the villain well but their soft sides are showing.

TLDR Immediately obsessed. Couldn’t put it down. Ava Jade is a badass and the boys will have you weak in the knees.

It’s going to be a wild ride!

I have come to the conclusion I am on a traumatic stories kick. I mean, imagine going to leave your husband and instead being kidnapped?! With the added knowledge that because you left him, he may not be looking for you at all? Only to be then whisked away to an isolated homestead in the Arctic with no chance of escape and surrounded by four men with unknown motives. I would have completely lost it! I think my heart was pounding the entire length of this book, especially towards the end. What is going to happen to them? How could Pam end the book that way?!

Tropes: Why choose Forced proximity Obsession Kidnapping Isolation/Survival

Hills of Shivers and Shadows is so intense! The amount of trauma all of these characters have experienced is so deep. Just merely surviving in a desolate landscape, beholden to a psychopath for every need is too much to comprehend. I am sure I would have given up and given in. It is dark and disturbing to say the least.

Frankie: She is a force to be reckoned with. At no point in time did she just grin and bear everything that was happening to her. No, she fights with a fierceness and sticks it to the man. She will not be controlled or told what to do and I love that about her. She won’t give up no matter what obstacle she faces. She is also so loving and tender when you deserve that side of her. Denver: There are absolutely no redeeming qualities about this man. I despise him with my entire being. The way he holds everyone captive for his own twisted gains is astonishing. Who hurt you? Who made you like this? Sadistic. Leonid: Our viking man. Strong, level headed and insatiable. He is the bridge between Kody and Wolf. The glue I feel like. Wolfson: I feel like Wolf is my twin with the wittier comebacks. I loved his sarcasm and view of the world. He just has a way of expressing himself without fear of judgment I wish I could emulate. Kodiak: Dark, broody, and grumbly. He is such the protector. He would do anything to keep his family safe, despite harm coming to himself. I loved him so much.

TLDR: Dark, disturbing, taboo, and so freaking good. Don’t skip this one.

I am unsure if I have ever read anything like this. Book one ended on quite the cliffy, which had me immediately diving into book two. By this time we have gotten to know so much about Anna and what she has been through. I thought it couldn’t get much worse, but this is the type of book that always gets worse. Anna grew so much between books one and two, though it will take time for her to stop overthinking and jumping to conclusions. With the way she has been treated, I don’t blame her. She is such a relatable character with real emotions that I could totally identify with. There are so many love interests in both books but in the end, I was always rooting for Alex. There was just this undying devotion there I couldn’t get over, though Aaron was a close second. The only thing I needed in this book was more to happen to Devin. With everything he put Anna through, I was disappointed the revenge wasn’t longer and more brutal. This duet will forever live in my brain as one of the most intense stories I have ever read.

This is the story of Anna. It never gets better. There is no hope. There is no savior. There is only Anna and the unending darkness. I couldn’t stop reading no matter what I read. Call me train wreck from now on because I couldn’t stop even if I wanted to. I have never read a book I both immensely loved and hate in tandem. I cannot say I am ready for act 2 but I’m a glutton for punishment, so wish me luck.

    Short and spicy Christmas read.

    Tropes: 🎄Cheating 🎄Age gap 🎄Stalking 🎄Bondage 🎄Primal Play 🎄Secluded cabin

When Ella walks in on her boyfriend, Liam, cheating on her (with her best friend) on Christmas(!!!), she flips and books it. She can’t face her family, what would they think?? So she goes to the one place she can be alone, where memories of this holiday have always been great, her family’s cabin. Little does she know, her alone time is about to be cut short.

Ella has it rough man. I felt so bad for her when she opened the door to that. And her best friend?! Seriously?! I didn’t blame her for running away as far and as fast as she could. She may have not seen this coming, but she is not meek and mild. She has a mouth on her and she’s willing to use it. I loved that no matter what she was calling it like she saw it and wasn’t letting these boys get away with anything.

Liam is a piece that’s all I have to say about him.

Luke’s backstory had my heart. His protective and fear nature was super hot. I really liked his new nonsense approach and how he cared so much.

If you’re looking for a short spicy Christmas read, this is for you.
