One-dimensional characters, weak plot, unfunny jokes due to constant repetition. I am really disappointed in this book.

i really do want to suspend my disbelief for some dark sexy smut but books like this rub me the wrong way. "Never before had a demon elicited that kind of response from me" - what, like its hard? You are 23! Your brain isn't even fully developed yet! "I couldn't shake the memory of the red-haired witch with the shining amber eyes" - of course she has red hair! of course the demon-possessed sad boy cannot forget her after one (1) meeting.
Also, ALSO FMC breaks it off with her previous bf because she is infertile and she cannot tell him that? Why? Hello? This is so childish? How is she going to handle a demon?
please PLEAAASE someone recommend me something GOOD.

Yawn! After three books I still do not care for the characters or their world. The epilogue was supposed to be this grand finale tying everything together, and if the whole thing had been better written I would have bawled my eyes out - this way, I just felt vaguely exhausted and relieved its over, which is a genuine shame.

Didn't really enjoy the first book, but was curious if it gets better. It does not. I was still thoroughly underwhelmed. The plot is extremely convoluted and sprawling and I do not appreciate the time traveling at all.
The author does not have the skill of Brandon Sanderson to pull this universe off.

Schlepping through this because a friend raved about it. So much is Happening(TM) but I just felt no excitement during any of the superduper high stakes moments that kept chasing one after the other. Found it absolutely ridiculous that the author keeps describing his characters as "athletic" - we are in a vaguely medieval world without any modern amenities, OF COURSE everyone is athletic, they have never used a lift or anything faster than a goddamn horse!

Perfectly fine little horror novel that still has much humour and heart in it. Not as excellent as the first one but still worth the read.

Simply cannot get over the fact that there is no solar power in this world. This obsession with calories due to famine and plague makes it even more insane that they wouldn’t pursue other means of electricity.
I disliked all characters except I guess the eponymous windup girl Emiko.
But man was this book a drag.

It seems insane that solar powered never mentioned. Instead this society has developed genetically manipulated elephants to turn springs and fill them with power?
