De acht bergen
Paolo Cognetti
This a previously-published edition of ISBN 9789023466413 Pietro is een stadsjongen uit Milaan.

I loved it, I felt like I myself was in the North American wilderness again. The dynamic between Bill and Katz made me laugh quite a few times, but it also warmed my heart. Sometimes there were a few too many facts, which made it a bit overwhelming. But overall, I loved it. Bill Bryson is an amazing writer and I look forward to reading more of his work.

This is entirely too short. I'm yearning for more, but I kind of feel like that's what Rooney wants you to feel. It's also what Sookie's yearning for; more. So I feel it's fitting.

Mr Salary
Sally Rooney
My love for him felt so total and so annihilating that it was often impossible for me to see him clearly at all. Years ago, Sukie moved in with Nathan because her mother was dead and her father was difficult, and she had nowhere else to go. Now they are on the brink of the inevitable. Sally Rooney is one of the most acclaimed young talents of recent years. With her minute attention to the power dynamics in everyday speech, she builds up sexual tension and throws a deceptively low-key glance at love and death.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou's Autobiography, #1)
Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou’s debut memoir is a modern American classic beloved worldwide. Her life story is told in the documentary film And Still I Rise, as seen on PBS’s American Masters. Here is a book as joyous and painful, as mysterious and memorable, as childhood itself. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings captures the longing of lonely children, the brute insult of bigotry, and the wonder of words that can make the world right. Maya Angelou’s debut memoir is a modern American classic beloved worldwide. Sent by their mother to live with their devout, self-sufficient grandmother in a small Southern town, Maya and her brother, Bailey, endure the ache of abandonment and the prejudice of the local “powhitetrash.” At eight years old and back at her mother’s side in St. Louis, Maya is attacked by a man many times her age—and has to live with the consequences for a lifetime. Years later, in San Francisco, Maya learns that love for herself, the kindness of others, her own strong spirit, and the ideas of great authors (“I met and fell in love with William Shakespeare”) will allow her to be free instead of imprisoned. Poetic and powerful, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings will touch hearts and change minds for as long as people read.

The Whalebone Theatre
Joanna Quinn
A transporting, irresistible debut novel that takes its heroine, Cristabel Seagrave, from a theatre in the gargantuan cavity of a beached whale into undercover operations during World War II—a story of love, family, bravery, lost innocence, and self-transformation. One blustery night in 1928, a whale washes up on the shores of the English Channel. By law, it belongs to the King, but twelve-year-old orphan Cristabel Seagrave has other plans. She and the rest of the household—her sister, Flossie; her brother, Digby, long-awaited heir to Chilcombe manor; Maudie Kitcat, kitchen maid; Taras, visiting artist—build a theatre from the beast’s skeletal rib cage. Within the Whalebone Theatre, Cristabel can escape her feckless stepparents and brisk governesses, and her imagination comes to life. As Cristabel grows into a headstrong young woman, World War II rears its head. She and Digby become British secret agents on separate missions in Nazi-occupied France—a more dangerous kind of playacting, it turns out, and one that threatens to tear the family apart.

Ousmane Dia
‘België heeft me alles gegeven. Reuzegom heeft me alles afgepakt.’

Tales of Sexual Desire: Father Sergius, The Kreutzer Sonata, The Devil
Leo Tolstoy
Tolstoy wrote some of the most disquieting short stories the world has known. These three are no exception. Here, the duels and duality of man and woman are played out in tortured - and sometimes tragic - drama. Above all, the characters featured in these pages bring to life universal truths for the human condition; truths that Tolstoy weaves with an almost unrivalled skill.
