I wasn’t sure how this book would follow the first one but it did it - I laughed, I cried and I loved it.
The characters are all so beautiful - I loved seeing all the different relationships being built, especially Ophelia with Alex’s family and her friendship group at Sorrowsong.
The mystery was not the most mysterious but I loved the characters so much I wanted to keep journeying with them. Whilst the last book was really immersed in the world of Sorrowsong, this one was a bit more here, there and everywhere. Combining that with the lack of mystery, this book didn’t feel much like dark academia.
But all that said, it’s definitely still a five star read for me! It was beautiful, emotional and hopeful. The representation of people’s struggles and the way we can support each other through them but can’t change them was so powerful.
This duology was so beautifully written and I can’t wait to see what else Autumn Woods writes.
