I loved this book and highly recommend reading! I think the author does a wonderful job intertwining so many characters and underlying themes without it being overbearing. There’s an elegance to her writing and the story is well balanced with a great ending. I listened to the audio version - the few first chapters were a little hard to follow character wise, but I caught on quickly. The narrator was amazing, too!

Kristin Hannah is by far one of my favorite authors, and I see why this book has the popularity it does.

I think she does a good job at showcasing France during the war - every time I thought it was bad, it got worse. It almost felt like that was the fiction, but I think (as a society) we forget the layers of horror and unknowns that keep occurring during the war and war in general.

I also appreciated the characters growth, it was one of the best parts of this book.

I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time.
