I desperately love this book. It starts silly enough. We’re in the brain of a very obviously autistic girl with a pure heart, her life goal being becoming the perfect girlfriend. She is silly and sees the world in a unique way, she’s obviously oblivious to a lot of the cruelty and harm around her - and that’s something that sneaks up on you. What starts as a fun little quirky romp quickly is shown to be a lot deeper than what she’ll admit. Her way of stating extremely dark events so simply, like they’re just facts, is disarming and almost more jarring than if she’d dwelled on it at all. She is utterly oblivious, intentionally ignoring when people mistreat her or are rude (aside from the moments when she can’t deny it and entertains violent thoughts towards herself). I love her. Reality, I love you. And this quest of self-growth was beautiful, it was so nice for the inner weird horse girl that still lives in my heart. I want nothing but good things for you. The writing is unlike anything else I’ve ever read, her voice is so unique and addictive and I loved being in her brain so much. I was never so thankful for a dictionary and translate function in my reading app, she taught me so much through her references and vocabulary! Everyone around her treats her like she’s dumb, they frequently ask if she had a physical or mental disease, or if she’d been kicked in the head by a horse, or any other rude thing. But she’s so sweet. She’s pure and good and believes in everyone and no one in the world deserves her. Reality, I would die for you. You don’t need to be a perfect girlfriend, you’re a perfect girl.
If you want to read this I will warn you! It mentions a lot of heavy subjects! As I said, she states them simply and doesn’t dwell on them but sometimes that’s even worse. My heart broke for her so many times but her spirit remained strong. I was glad I took my time with this one instead of blowing through it. I might buy this one. I love it I love it I love it.

I hope y'all are doing well (and happy first day of Pride)! Here is the long awaited 'buddy finder' for the summer of 2026.
How it works -> You post a comment with the book and give any info that you feel is relevant for a potential buddy to know. Ex: Polterbook comments "Looking to read Earthlings by Sayaka Murata either late July or early August. I'm hoping to finish this book within a 7 to 10 day period." -> Post each book in a separate comment if you're wanting to read more than one of the books so that potential buddies can see/find it easier.
Rules -> Please make sure it's a book already in the quest. The point is to try to knock out some of your TBR books while also getting closer to a badge. -> Be kind to each other (OBVIOUSLY) -> The idea is that the readalong happens during the summer season so try to plan the readalong with that in mind.
I'm going to temporarily pin this post so that it's easy to find. Summer 2026 runs from June 1st, 2026 to August 31, 2026. Get your summer spooky reading on!
