Archaeological Fiction Books
I'm big into the theme of stories having archaeological plots. Even if the story isn't fully centered on archaeology--if it has a hint of it or similar fields of study--I'm in love. These stories might not have the same feel as "the Mummy" or "Indiana Jones", but they will have a hint of archaeological-adjacent themes smattered within at least.

Sci-fi novella -- those are two things I don't usually include in my TBR. Everyone sung its praises though and I figured, "it's short, so what do I have to lose if I don't like it?"
‧₊˚✧ World Building ✧˚₊‧ I don't know if this was a fault of the story-telling or just my inexperience with sci-fi, but it was a little difficult in the beginning to piece together everything happening in terms of world-building and such--what is HubSystem, MedSystem, SecSystem for example. I do feel that I was able to piece things together though as the story went on enough to have a solid understanding in such a short story. As the story progressed, I was able to piece together somewhat what MurderBot looked like and what the various technology was doing. So I would argue the author introduced the world very well throughout, but if you're expecting to understand everything from the beginning as a novice sci-fi reader, you will be disappointed.
‧₊˚✧ Story-telling ✧˚₊‧ Additionally, I was expecting pure technology and mystery and murder to be rampant. What I was not expecting was the humor and almost dryness with which the story is told. It was incredibly fun to read this way considering the genre. MurderBot is almost completely detached from what is happening and it makes the premise of them being the narrator so much easier to believe.
‧₊˚✧ The End ✧˚₊‧ The ending bothered me, but not in a necessarily good or bad way. I'm still conflicted--even as I type this--on how I feel about it. On one hand, I couldn't have seen it go any other way. On the other, I kind of wished that it had.
