This was my first T. Kingfisher book and I am so excited to continue on to others.
I feel like this is definitely a book for fairy tale lovers (which is me) -- the ones that are filled with lessons, magical exchanges, and a little darkness weaved into it.
I was pleasantly surprised by the fantasy politics in this story, especially from the point of view of someone who doesn't want anything to do with it, nor fully understands it. I loved the little group that was formed and they all seemed to worked well together while still being completely and utterly unique from one another. The main character, Marra, was so fleshed out and I felt that there were many times that she was relateable eventhough our situations are so different.
The writing was very well done and the entire book was atmosphereic to the point that the vibes settles around like a blanket, even when other things were going on. (I'm not sure if that even made sense, but here we are).
While nothing in the story was particularly shocking, I thought that it did a good job leading the reading from begining to end. It was a nice change of pase from stories that try to add in twists purely for the shock factor, imo. I thought the pacing was well done considering the scope of the story/journey, but there were some sections were I thought "wait that's it?" Would have loved to see more of the Blisterlands and add some more depth to some later parts (not mentioning it here to keep this spoiler free).
