I recieved an advanced copy of this book from the author and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It was a very well thought out story with in depth world building and interesting and unique lore. The story had a lot of folk magic vs. colonizer/mainstream religion themes that were well explored but left me feeling unsatisfied in the conclusion. However, thematically I felt it made sense that something so big couldn't be resolved by two individuals.
The pacing felt consistent and appropriate for the books length, but it also felt rushed in that I would have liked the book to be longer with more description and details throughout. There were some things that were introduced earlier on that felt important but seemed to be forgotten by the end. I felt like the book could easily have been twice as long.
Overall though I think this is an excellent debut novel and I look forward to reading more by this author
