i feel like mrs bennet gets such a bad rap. like she's a little annoying, sure. a little caddy, a little chatty, a little importunate. but if being an importunate yapper is such a crime than clap me in irons. we can't all aspire to elizabeth's discretion and propriety. i for one appreciate a little messiness, and hardly think it should be an indictment of one's character.

i'm obsessed with how the characters spend their lives endlessly reading each other. in the 21st century i suppose many of us dont get to live like they did—perpetually chatting, going to balls and taking turns about the grounds (for better and worse, i might add)—and it shows. surely this was a highwatermark for that particular art of aristocratic conversation. even if most didn't travel far, gossip, and takes, and who's-who never really get old do they?
