The whimsical prose, that so strangely contrasts with the bizarre perversion of the protagonist, is definitely a valuable aspect of the book. However, what makes this book a 5 star reading experience is the deeper meaning of the story, and the intricate subtle comparisons with religious myths, particularly with Christianism. The writer does not expose Grenouille so much as the reader in the crowd, confused by the scents and prone to violence. A dark and thought provoking read for those who dare.
