Hey (: ! Iām currently reading a series that has 7 books, and I just finished book 3! šāØ
The next books are pretty chunky, so before I start book 4, I want to read a quick palate cleanser.
What are your favorite palate cleanser book recs to read in between series? š Iām looking for something light, fun, easy, and not too emotionally heavy! š«¶š¼

I'm curiousāwhat's everyone's favorite book copy that they own? Not necessarily your favorite story, but a specific edition or physical book that means something to you.
For me, it's my ARC of Babel. I snagged it while working at Barnes & Nobleāa coworker had claimed it first, but when I got excited about it, they graciously handed it over. I actually own a nice finished copy now, but I always reach for the ARC instead. It's the perfect level of floppiness for a 500+ page book, and it just feels right in my hands. It also has the full original subtitle which I understand why the completed editions don't have it but there's something about it that just feels right for the overall message of the book.
What about you guys? What beat-up paperbacks, signed first editions, or surprise thrift-store finds do you cherish š ?

everything that i loved about Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom does even better. the characters, the superhero movie-esque antics, the dialogue, the plot... just everything. this will easily be one of my favorite books of 2026, and i definitely did start crying at the end :')

prepare for me to be incredibly annoying about this one! holy shit! this is masterful. itās structured like a tree, flowing from roots to crown and scattering out into seeds, and thereās something about the way itās written that feels tree-like too. decades (sometimes generations) pass in a few pages, but things congeal into syrupy focus when a character demands it. the overstory is incredibly unique, and an utter delight to read. given that the novel follows nine separate characters, youād think it ends up a confusing mess, but it was a great to develop each strand then watch them tangle with each other as the book went on. i cannot emphasize enough how powerful the tree-shaped structure was here: i delighted in finding the shape of roots coalescing into a trunk, then bursting apart into the canopy within a very human narrative. this could very easily have been a cool concept turned into a gimmick, or something so heavy-handed it is no longer enjoyable. it is neither. instead, the overstory bursts with life, human and otherwise, and brings as much depth to its human characters as its arboreal.
a few qualms that donāt impact my rating or enjoyment: i think one thing that helped me was that i didnāt need convincing of the novelās thesis (trees are living things worthy of our respect and attention), and this could be a frustrating read for people unwilling to empathize with that view. additionally, there were a couple moments where it was glaringly obvious this was written by a person who has never been or fully understood a woman. rather ironic that there was a blind spot there when the entire story is about embracing the one-ness of nature and littleness of humanity; youād hope that male expectations for women would pale with that long view in mind. but it was brief enough that i could get past it!
