The Empress of Salt and Fortune was a short read, but it contained everything there is to know in the story. I enjoyed the narration and how it switched from Rabbit’s memories as she retold the tale of the empress back to the present with Chih and Almost Brilliant. I believe the plot would have been better developed had it been a longer book. There was so much to unravel that the current length did not do it justice; this made some parts of the book a little confusing and hard to follow. Other than that, I find this book an interesting way to retell a tale.
