So far, I’m really enjoying Eden’s stories about the Rabbit Woman! It’s been the most interesting part of the novel for me. I also love certain aspects of the prose—certain descriptions and sentences are so beautifully written, like the part where Margot imagines Abby’s hair in her stomach and likens herself to the hexes she makes. However, I’m failing to feel disgusted the way others have been (and that’s what I’ve been wanting) when reading it. None of the “gore” feels particularly gory, only like it’s meant to shock you and not unnerve you. I know it’s supposed to be folk horror, and I suppose it feels that way in setting (aesthetic), but it still falls flat for me. Maybe my expectations for this were too high. We'll see when I’m done.
