Middle Grade/Adult Reader: I'm loving this so far!! It's just the right amount of stakes and scary that it's still capturing my attention, the characters are well fleshed out and relatable. It's giving Hidden Pictures vibes, so if you like that but want something more 'cozy' you will probably like this!

I feel like every reader I talk to has a different definition of “cozy”! 😂 I think about the discussion of The Spellshop and how some people got stressed out because the stakes went up… or how since it included political and societal collapse it’s NOT cozy at all. I’ve even heard it to describe books like The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi and others I would NOT define as cozy at all.
I wonder if some people mean “whimsical,” or others mean “low-stakes,” and still others mean “fun.”
At this point I’m not sure how I would define “cozy” 😂 Help me out here! What is “cozy?”

Is it mandatory for splatterpunk books to feature sexual violence? I thought that a book about three edgelords getting tricked into going a "special club" would be about them getting punished for enjoying exploitation horror and snuff. And yes, it was about that, but before we got into it there had to be scenes where they had a chance to torture and rape women or see them being raped by someone else. One character claimed that the theater kidnaps and tortures both genders, but why was it only shown done to women? (I know what happens to one of the main male characters, but I'm speaking about the rules of the club here. I also didn't enjoy reading about Josh being raped and thought it could have been easily replaced with something else).
I don't think this book does a good commentary on anything (not on snuff, not on online trolls that enjoy it, not on trafficking). The ending wasn't satisfying at all.
I'm getting frustrated, because I like gore, but why do all splatterpunk books I read insist that rape has to go along with it? Do I just have bad luck when I pick books?
