I don’t know what I expected going into this, but it wasn’t what I got and I mean that in the BEST way. This book was so moving and profound in between scenes of things that are so outrageous, it’s startling. You find yourself growing attached to a clown and his dog, a mischievous elephant with a mind of her own, and a chimpanzee, not to mention all the other people you grow to love. It also really does allow you an alternate way to view older people in assisted living communities, which was nice, because they’re complex people just like everyone else, and it often feels like they’re forgotten. So it was nice for that to be spotlighted in and amongst the circus flashbacks! SUCH a good read, and one that will stick with me for years and years.
