I finished this book a few days ago, and I have to say, it had me hooked from the very first page. The way it came into my life was... impossible to describe. Honestly, it's one of the most beautiful things that's ever happened to me, because someone confessed their feelings to me with this book. It was the kind of moment you'd expect to see in a film, or maybe even in a novel.

An Ember in the Ashes tells two stories that gradually intertwine through dual narration. On one side, there's Laia, a young orphan who lives with her grandparents and her brother, Darin. One night, during a military raid, her world falls apart. Her grandparents are murdered, her brother is arrested, and she's left completely alone. Desperate to save him, she joins the Resistance and infiltrates Blackcliff Academy as a slave. There, she meets Elias, the novel's other narrator. Unlike Laia, Elias is one of Blackcliff's finest soldiers, yet all he dreams about is escaping. He can't bring himself to accept the brutal life he's expected to lead within the academy's walls.

This is easily one of the best books I've ever read. I absolutely love science fiction and, of course, dystopian novels, so this one was right up my alley. At first, I completely fell for Keenan, Laia's contact within the Resistance. And honestly... can you blame me? Just wait until you get to the Moon Festival scene. Seriously, who wouldn't melt if someone like Keenan, shy and incredibly sweet, came up to them and quietly asked, "Would you do me the honour of this dance?"

Elias has his own charm too, but... I'll keep my mouth shut because I don't want to spoil anything. I will say, though, that I initially thought he'd end up with his best friend. I still don't know how everything plays out because the ending leaves you with far more questions than answers. When I first finished it, I genuinely believed it was a standalone novel, and I was left with the biggest hole in my chest. Then I found out there were more books in the series, and I can't tell you how relieved I was. I'd already spent half the evening complaining to my boyfriend that there was no way the story could possibly end like that. Honestly, I could probably spend hours talking about this book... but then I'd inevitably start spoiling things, and I hate doing that.

Without a doubt, this has earned a place among my "star books." I could read it over and over until my fingers gave up, my eyesight failed me, or the pages finally fell apart from being handled so much. Whether you're already a fan of dystopian fiction or you've never picked one up before, I genuinely think this book is worth your time.

So go on... give it a chance.

Este libro me lo acabé de leer hace unos días, y he de decir que me atrapó desde el primer momento en el que empecé a leerlo. La forma en la que llegó a mí fue… Indescriptible. Si más no, para mí, fue de las cosas más bonitas que me han ocurrido en la vida, ya que se me declararon con este libro. Fue digno de una película, o de un libro, quien sabe.

En Una llama entre cenizas, hay doble narración. Son dos historias que se cruzan. Por una parte está Laia, una joven huérfana que vivía con sus abuelos y su hermano, Darin. Una noche, en una redada, se quedó totalmente sola. Mataron a sus abuelos y se llevaron a su hermano preso. Eso la llevó a meterse como esclava a Risco Negro, con la ayuda de la Resistencia. En Risco Negro, conoce a Elias, el otro narrador de esta historia. Él, en cambio, es un soldado de Risco Negro, pero que ansía escapar de allí. No se siente identificado con lo que se ve obligado a hacer dentro de las paredes oscuras de la academia.

Este libro es uno de los mejores que he leído, adoro la ciencia ficción y también, por supuesto, las distopías, como es el caso. Al principio, me enamoré de Keenan, el contacto de Laia dentro de la Resistencia. Y es que… ¡Para no enamorarse! Sólo os digo que… Cuidado cuando lleguéis a la parte en la que están en el Festival de la Luna. ¿Quién no caería redonda si Keenan viniese, tímido y adorable, preguntándote un «¿Me harías el honor de bailar conmigo?»? Elias también tiene su punto, pero… Bien, no quiero hacer spoiler. Sólo diré que a Elias lo veía más con la mejor amiga de éste. No sé como acaba el asunto, ya que deja un final bastante enigmático. Al principio, creía que era un libro único, que la cosa se acababa ahí, y me sentí con un vacío enorme en el pecho, pero no. Hay como dos libros más que aún no se han publicado. Y menos mal. Yo ya estaba quejándome, dándole la tabarra a mi pareja de entonces diciéndole que este libro no podía acabar así. (La verdad es que podría tirarme la vida hablando de este libro, pero… Empezaría con el spoiler, y lo odio)

Este es otro de mis “libros con estrella”, sin duda alguna. Podría leerlo hasta quedarme sin dedos, sin vista o hasta que el libro acabara deshaciéndose de tanto toqueteo. Tanto si eres fan de este género como si no, merece la pena leerlo. Así que, ¡ánimo y a la lectura!

Today I'm bringing you my favourite Wattpad success story. Yes, I know that as soon as some of you hear the name Wattpad, you'll want to run for the hills. I probably would have too. Over the years, Wattpad has earned a pretty questionable reputation... and, most of the time, it's well deserved. But every now and then, you stumble across a hidden gem. And today, I want to talk about one of them.

At first glance, Fast feels like your typical cliché-filled romance. But if you give it a chance (the same chance I gave it) you'll discover a story packed with heartbreak, tears, joy, and moments that will leave you smiling. Don't believe me? Well, you'll just have to find out for yourself.

The story mainly follows Trish and Louis, whose lives collide after an unfortunate encounter in a gas station bathroom... and from there, things only get more chaotic. Although I've only listed the first book in the information above (as far as I know, it's the only one that was ever published in print), I'm really talking about the entire trilogy.

I first came across it back in 2014, if I remember correctly. My friend Natalia and I were huge fans of One Direction at the time (back when the band was still together) and that's how we discovered it. It actually took me quite a while to read because I didn't have much access to a computer back then. I ended up reading the trilogy as the author was writing it, eagerly waiting for each new chapter until she finally finished the story. When I found out the first book had been published in print, I bought it without a second thought. Coincidentally, I was also publishing one of my own books in print through the same platform around that time, which made it feel even more special.

Anyway, enough of my trip down memory lane.

Natalia and I experienced this story together. We got excited together, laughed together, and cried together. Maybe that's one of the reasons this trilogy means so much to me. But nostalgia isn't the only reason I love it. The story itself is genuinely good. It has far more depth and emotional weight than many people would expect from a Wattpad novel, and I honestly can't recommend it enough.

I know some of you might immediately think of After when you hear it's a One Direction fanfiction that started on Wattpad. But personally... I think Fast is the better story.

So yes, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Whether you decide to read it on Wattpad or pick up the printed edition, I really hope you'll give it a chance.

Hoy os traigo el fenómeno Wattpad que más me ha gustado. Sí, sé que muchos tras leer el nombre de la página huiréis, yo incluso lo haría. Wattpad es una red social literaria que ha cogido muy mala fama... Y sí, se la tiene merecida, la mayoría de las veces. Sin embargo, puedes encontrar pequeñas joyas. Y hoy os traigo una de ellas. Fast parece la típica historia cliché cuando empiezas a leerla, pero dándole una pequeña oportunidad, como la que le di yo, descubres un mundo lleno de tristeza, llantos, alegrías y sonrisas. ¿No os lo creéis? Bueno, descubridlo vosotros.

Fast trata, principalmente, de la vida de Trish y Louis. Quienes tras conocerse en un desafortunado baño de gasolinera... Acontecen mil y un enfrentamientos. A pesar de que sólo he presentado el primer libro en los datos (puesto que hasta donde sé, es el único en papel), os hablaré de la trilogía completa... Apareció en mi vida por allá en el 2014, si no voy mal. Mi amiga Natalia y yo, que por aquel entonces éramos unas locas fans de la banda ya disuelta One Direction, descubrimos la historia. He de decir que me llevó bastante tiempo leerla, puesto que no disponía de demasiado tiempo al ordenador. Terminé la trilogía completa en cuanto la escritora la terminó, ya que iba a su mismo ritmo de escritura. Y cuando me enteré de que había publicado en papel la historia, no dudé en adquirirlo, puesto que yo publicaba en papel por la misma plataforma más o menos en el mismo momento que ella.

Bueno, dejaré de aburriros con esto. El caso es que lo leíamos juntas, nos emocionábamos juntas y llorábamos juntas, con la historia. Tal vez, por esto, adoro más la trilogía que otra cosa. La historia, sin duda, es buena. Tiene muy buena calidad y fondo, a pesar de ser una historia Wattpad. Y sí, la recomiendo muchísimo. Muchos, tal vez, penséis en la serie After, al ver que es un fanfic de la misma banda, y sacada de la misma plataforma. Sin embargo... Bajo mi gusto, ésta es mejor.

La recomiendo demasiado. Así que, sin dudarlo, os animaría a leerla. Tanto si es en la red social, o comprando el libro.

I blasted through this book in less than three days. I'd been searching for a book that would get its claws into me. The kind that keeps you glued to the pages and makes it impossible to look away. This one did exactly that.

It's packed with pretty much everything I love: supernatural fantasy, mystery, LGBTQIA+ romance, a bit of action, rebellion, feelings all over the place... What a ride.

I do wish the ending had dug a little deeper, though. What happens after all that craziness? Where do Gabriela, Cian, Dome and Veil go from here? I was left wanting just a few more details to really close the book on the story. (Myriam, if you're reading this, I'm just saying... you've got the perfect excuse to give us more books. Wink wink.)

Overall, I had an amazing time with it. The characters are really well crafted (though let's be honest, Cian is something else entirely), and the relationships between them are fascinating. I just wish a couple of them had gone a little deeper than "we've fucked."

This was my first book by this author, and it definitely won't be my last.

Me he ventilado el libro en menos de 3 días. Hacía tiempo que buscaba un libro que me enganchara. Que me hiciera estar pegada a sus páginas sin poder levantar la vista. Y este lo ha conseguido con creces.

Tiene un poco de todo lo que me gusta: fantasía sobrenatural, misterios, romances LGTBIAQ+, un poco de acción, rebelión, emociones a flor de piel... Ha sido una aventura maravillosa.

Me hubiera gustado, quizá, que ahonadara más en el final. En como queda todo después de toda la movida. ¿Qué les depara a Gabriela, Cian, Dome y Veil tras todo? Siento que me faltan detalles para cerrar del todo la trama. (Myriam, si me lees, es una oportunidad de oro de sacar más libros de esto, guiño guiño).

En general me ha gustado muchísimo. Los personajes están bien construidos (aunque todes sabemos que Cian es una cosa), las relaciones entre ellos también son muy interesantes, aunque me hubiera gustado que algunas profundizaran un poco más en ellas, más allá de "hemos follado".

Ha sido mi primer libro de la autora, y definitivamente volveré a por más.
