Hey all, can you recommend me something similar to this book to read while I wait for book two? I've already read and loved Sara Raasch's Romance and Royals books. I've also read Night of the Witch and the Snow Like Ashes series (but sadly didn't enjoy them as must). Gimme your cozy queer fantasy recs!
Side note: I refuse to buy books from Amazon, so recs must be available elsewhere. TIA!

friends if this is not a low stakes rivals to lovers romance with some charm and obnoxiously witty characters, tell me know so I can pause on this and find something else. my last read was A Lot so I'm looking for this to be a nice break.

I really liked it. I will say, I read it looking for a bit of an escape, and thus was not expecting the staggering amount of childhood trauma, but it was still thoroughly enjoyable.

The Entanglement of Rival Wizards (Magic and Romance)

Let’s talk about the epidemic.
At what point did "morally gray" become: A. War crimes, but make it romantic B. Emotional unavailability with good cheekbones C. “I’d burn the world for you” (sir, why is your world so flammable?) We eat it up every time.
Discussion fuel: If your fave morally gray man were described as “medium height accountant with a receding hairline,” would he still be complex?
Do we forgive violence faster when it’s aesthetic?
Are fantasy readers more comfortable with authoritarian love interests because the world-building distances the harm?

I loved it! I knew going in it was going to be book 1 in a series, but that cliffhanger was painfulll. I wish we'd gotten a little more worldbuilding about how certain things worked, including the spirits and vessels and the like, I hope we get more in the next book!

I haven't had to put any of books 1-6 on hold, so I've just been zooming through them, 1 a day, and now you're telling me I gotta wait for this one?????? 😤
Friends, how am I possibly going to remember the craziness of these books 2 weeks from now? I'm so locked in rn 😭
