I want to try making a personal list of books to read that have at least one diehard fan. I'm looking for the book that you bring up when someone says they want to get back into reading. The one you don't think ever gets enough attention because something else in that genre became popular. The one where people say "that was a book?" after discovering a movie or tv show they enjoyed was based on a novel.
My list starts with Howls Moving Castle, my own personal choice, that I have actually recommended to anyone asking.

This is a list of books that at least one person thinks you should read. A book that, no matter who you are, is worth giving a try. Out there in the world, this is someone's favourite book. They wish absolutely everyone they know would sit down and read it. Will you give any of these a chance?

Okay this is so dumb but I'm constantly amazed by how many of my mutuals here get really excited by new quests and are motivated to read books they otherwise wouldn't probably look at primarily because Badge Shiny. Badge Shiny doesn't honestly hook me at all? And I get it's core to pagebound, and I'm not judging at all, it's fun to see everyone get excited even tho I find it baffling. I'm absolutely intrigued by the whole phenomenon. So I thought I'd make a post with a simple purpose.
Up-vote this post if you are motivated to read things you might not otherwise read because Badge Shiny. Down-vote this post if you are not motivated to read things you might not otherwise read because Badge Shiny (you may still read things you would have read anyway sooner because hey, you'll also get a badge, so why not, but acquiring the badge is not your main reason for doing the thing).
Explain or talk more about your views in the comments, should the spirit move you to do so.

This book serves as a perfect coffee table book for modern women who love mixing real life problems with medieval art and humor. Every single page brought, myself or a nearby coworker who I made look at what I was reading, chuckle. There's a good combination of true accounts, one off jokes, and common every day occurrences that all fall under the umbrella of dating. The artwork is fantastically done and many of the jokes hit close to home.
There were a few titles that were overly embellished to the point where I had trouble reading what they were saying, though I don't really think that mattered too much in the grand scheme of things.
Overall I enjoyed looking through this book but it's the kind of book you buy as a gag gift. I find it hard to rate since it's the kind of thing you would read in very specific situations. It also doesn't translate super well into an ebook version, which was how I came upon it.

Reality is overrated! These surreal and absurd fiction books remove logic to reveal their truths. Here the impossible is inevitable, the strange is necessary, and Kafkaesque is only the beginning.

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.
