This is one of my favorite books I have read, no matter the genre, in the last 3 years. I want more Southern Gothic!!! Mandelo is an incredible writer, and I want to read everything they have to offer.
Andrew, Andrew...hunted (and haunted) by the death of his (boy)friend.... caught up in the throes of a fuckass grad program, and being (to him) queerbaited by an aloof mechanic? Yeah it's like if the Raven Boys grew up. The first time I read this book, I almost didn't finish it because Andrew's moping was driving me insane. His weepy, I can't do anything for myself but I also won't let anyone else help me attitude was grating and insufferable at times.
But once he starts actually making friends and letting people care about him AND figuring out what he has to do for his program/the curse, the pain starts to lessen. I don't think it ever goes away ("I don't want to share you with a dead man"), but it gets better.
The ending of Summer Sons hurts so good. Andrew and Sam starting again and literally riding into the sunset?? Stop it. I want to read this book, forget it, and then read it again for the first time with fresh eyes. It's just that good!!!!!

“If the Raven Boys grew up” YES. I kept reading this story for Sam and when he put Andrew in his place but with a clear indication for the future, I cheered! Your review is so good and I agree completely - this book was such a crazy ride that I want to do all over again.
