To sum up the coming review, I did not like this novella. First of all, the story is not about mannequins, which was a huge disappointment off the bat. Then, the writing was not good, in my opinion. It was clunky and confusing, along with the plot line, which, by the way, was blatantly obvious. With psychological thrillers, you usually have some form of suspense or mind boggling aspects, but this book really missed the mark. However, what I had fun with in this novella was the psychology of the main character. It was interesting to explore his thoughts and justifications. Overall, I didnāt have an enjoyable experience while reading this writing, and I honestly got pretty bored and annoyed. Despite that, though, I wonāt discourage you from reading it. Itās a short horror novella that makes for a good palette cleanser, if nothing else. Just have your expectations at an appropriate level. 2 stars.

Iām just so upset. This book ruined the entire series for me. Thereās just so much anticipation thatās built brick by brick with each book just for it to fall flat at the end. It feels SO rushed. Itās such a massive book, and for what????? That ending scene with Persephone and Cronos?!?! I had to read it like five times to understand what even happened. Then, we get absolutely no closure on anything???? Like, who is the new leader of the gods??? Wtf happened with Dionysus and Ariadne???? Iām just so utterly disappointed and angry.

I wish I could give this zero stars. Terrible writing. Makes sentient object romances look bad. Donāt read this, and definitely donāt spend your money. It wasnāt even funny. 0 stars.

Stick with me; this review is going to be a stream of consciousness. So, I donāt know how I feel about this one. It gave me the ick often, but I have to also consider that I donāt read mafia because it gives me the ick. So, take this review with a grain of salt. I also donāt love the preachiness that Navessa does throughout her books. It makes for a weird read. Like, are sex workersā rights important? Absolutely. But I think thereās a discrete way to talk about it through your writing without having random, blatant monologues. I also didnāt love the romanticism of sex work because sex work can be incredibly dangerous and comes with many downfalls that I believe Navessa didnāt really touch on. And the sex club? Itās a kink club, but it really didnāt feel all that kinky. Maybe Iām just desensitized, but I would think a sex club would have way more kinky and shocking aspects than this one did. Additionally, Navessa touches on way too many plot points in her books, and it leaves her books feeling like they have plot holes or are incomplete, in a sense. Other than all that Iāve listed, though, the book wasnāt bad. It was entertaining enough for me to want to finish it, but I donāt think it was nearly as good or funny as Lights Out. Again, not a terrible book, but it could use some improvement, especially when compared to Lights Out. 3.75 stars.

Okay, so I originally read this book last year around March and despised it but rated it 4 stars due to the impact it had on me. However, my reread this go around, now that there was no shock factor, made me realize just how bad this book actually is. The writing is horrific, and Tem is utterly annoying. I genuinely cannot stand anyone in this book. Is it funny to read? Yes. Is it unhinged? Yes. Is it a well-written, thought-provoking book? Absolutely not. I reread this book in preparation for the second book since I own it, and now, I am no longer wanting to read the second book. However, I will because Iām a masochist when it comes to reading (and I own the book). Donāt get me wrong, this book is deeply hilarious and really goes all in on shock factor, and itās really fun to read and discuss with other people. But itās full of sex scenesālike, way too much. Yes, the plot is centered around sex and so is the species; however, I still feel as though it was really overboard on the sex. It just gets tedious and repetitive when youāre reading it. So, all in all, if you want a good book, this isnāt for you. But if you want a fun, funny, unhinged book that will also make you endlessly angry and annoyed, then look no further than Kiss of the Basilisk. 2.5 stars for this reread.

Hmmm Iām struggling to review this book. I thought it would be something completely different than it was. For what it was, it was okay. I think the writing was a little clunky at points. Like, the transition into the reveal wasnāt smooth whatsoever and kind of felt like a jolt to my brain. Also, the end felt very rushed. The actual story was decent, but I think an exploration into what asylums were actually like wouldāve been cool. Overall, I think the book and story had potential but fell flat for me. Iām feeling disappointed. 3.25 stars
