Reading this book is like reading a classic fantasy D&D campaign with enemies-to-lovers spice 🌶️ I really liked the healer/warrior main character duo, with their goofy mage and menagerie of street-smart friends. If anything I would have liked more time deepening the individual character arcs. The world building is stellar, I found the magic system to be straightforward and interesting with just the perfect amount of godly lore. It’s a quick and satisfying read that scratches the romantasy itch perfectly. Can’t wait for book two!

I love this book because as you read this you realize that you’re not just rooting for a relationship or true love, you’re rooting for Cherry (and Stevie! 🐩 ). And I think that is especially impactful because Cherry doesn’t shy away from being a fat woman, or a person getting a divorce, or an artist who doesnt “make art” anymore. Those are just parts of her, and those parts don’t change how she wears her cute clothes and kisses good men and cooks her family holiday meals. Both halves of her story being told with the same tender rawness is what makes her story feel so real, romantic, and heartwarming.
