'But self-destructing people-pleasing was another of Eve's plentiful idiosyncrasies. She had a crippling fear of disappointing anyone, even complete strangers - even people she didn't like' - Oh she's just like me

There's really not much I could say about the quality of this book which others haven't already said, it was STUNNING! My main 'complaint' was just how long it was, I feel like drawing out the story into a duology or trilogy would have allowed for even more depth and development, but the way so much was packed into a standalone without sacrificing much in terms of pacing and intrigue was super impressive. I'm looking forwards to picking up the prequels when I can!!

This is a random point for the entire book but I loveeee the way food is used to enhance the world-building. It bring so much richness and diversity to each of the countries and cultures throughout the story and shows how much thought was put into the creation of each of them. Idk I just love it, it's been a funny little highlight I've been keeping note of as I'm reading and every story it's going to be on my mind in every fantasy/sci-fi story I read from now on.

Struggling a bit with the 5+ new character names/ titles/ place namedrops/ general lore every single page. So far I'm finding the world building a bit clumsy, because it doesn't seem to have much room to breathe and get familiar with one character/ concept before it quickly introduces several more. Persevering because it's a friend's favourite book, and I trust her.

Ngl this app has done wonders to improve my reading. The quests and lists are so exciting to plot through even if I’ll never finish them all. And the point system is such a good incentive for someone whose brain likes rewards (mine) no matter how small they are. It got me off most of my social media to read and I’m on track to read 10 more than I did last year 📚💡🥹. It stands out from the other book apps sensationally and I like using it amidst the others, but Pagebound is already my favourite.
