Nothing’s worse than being madly in love and married, only to witness your spouse have a medical emergency that leaves them waking up in the hospital with no recollection of the past few years. Even worse, it’s six years prior to you even existing as a couple, back to a time when you were both academic rivals. That’s Aster’s reality when his wife, Molly, finally wakes up in the hospital.

Aster is such a patient and loving husband because I definitely would lack the patience to work through a situation like this. Aster, with his sensible, level head, doesn’t give up on Molly. He does everything in his power to acclimate her back into their home and back into her routine. They both have such a supportive and loving circle of friends. I was totally jealous of that. I loved their gatherings and their game nights. I also loved how they all equally supported both Molly and Aster. I loved watching Aster be such a protective and loving husband. He was dead serious about the whole “until death do us part” thing.

I think I expected a bit of a different ending, but it wasn’t totally disappointing. I kind of wish there was a little more at the end, but that’s because it was that good!

This story drew on some true life events, with overarching themes of The Odyssey and the Titanic, which made it interesting and unique.

Nine guests board The Black Orchid, a luxury ship on its very first voyage. Each passenger has their own story, and some have hidden agendas. There’s a cat and mouse chase, people making bad decisions that result in deadly consequences, and unexpected realizations as hidden secrets and lies come to light. You also get little aspects of a true crime documentary as the story documents The Black Orchid underwater, which reminded me so much of the Titanic movie.

The first half starts out a bit slow, but keep going because once it gets going, it’s going! The suspense did not disappoint, and neither did the ending. This was a great summer mystery thriller! At first, you may feel like you’ll get lost because of how many characters there are to follow, but it all truly comes together.
