Not really a major update, but just to say I'm quite enjoying this so far. It's one of the few books comped to The Secret History that actually feels like it merits the comparison.

An okay story, sometimes quite messy with the plot going off in a few different directions. Read a bit like a Sense & Sensibility revamp, but obviously not even remotely up to Jane Austen's quality.

Elegiac, haunting, delicately unnerving.

Bad writing, silly plot, no character development whatsoever. I can't judge the accuracy of the setting, but it wasn't well integrated, it's all info dumping.

A totally serviceable, middle of the road kind of read. The plot held together better than I expected, to be honest, and I thought Ali was a pretty strong protagonist, though Graham was...a little less developed, for me. I read it in a day, had a perfectly nice time with it, and I'll probably never think about it again, yknow?

Can I give this negative stars? the incoherent plot doesn't deserve .5.
