  • The Novice's Tale (Sister Frevisse, #1)
Reading Update from 58% (page 135)

I'm enjoying this more so far than I expected to. Very much in line with the kind of 90s historical mystery I wanted it to be, but slightly better than predicted; interesting character dynamics, and I like the mc, Frevisse, and can see her headlining the rest of the series. It's enough like Cadfael (in setting & genre, obviously, but also in other dynamics and writing style) that it feels like getting to finally have more Cadfael after I've read that whole series over and over again.

  • The Haunting Season: Ghostly Tales for Long Winter Nights
Reading Update from 37% (page 108)

I've read and enjoyed Natasha Pulley before, so was eager to read her story (The Eel Singers). This story had footnotes, which I tend to be a fan of in general. I didn't realize this story would be related to her Watchmaker of Filigree Street series, and now I'm more eager to read those as well :) 4 stars for this one!

Overall I enjoyed this - I'm a sucker for woodsy gothic stories - but I thought the prose, though lovely, was occasionally overdone, and that there wasn't quite enough to it all, story and style alike, to stretch out over a full book's length. I did like the ending a lot, though.

  • The Bear and the Nightingale (The Winternight Trilogy, #1)
Loved The Bear and the Nightingale, haven't continued series

I really loved this book when I read it a couple of years ago, and fully meant to continue the trilogy...then just didn't. So last year i picked it back up and said ok, I'll reread number one, and continue this time! Loved it again on a second read, but for a second time, just didn't feel like reading the sequel. Is 2025 finally going to be the year for it?? (odds aren't good.) (but I did like it, so I don't know what my deal is, lol)
