This was everything any Voidwalker fan could want in the sequel! New characters and world building, heightened stakes, and a fast-moving plot. In Sunsplitter, Fi encounters the scariest thing any carnivore-tamer could be faced with: her boyfriend’s family.
This was a lot of fun, but what Sunsplitter nailed so perfectly that so many romantasy sequels miss is the ROMANCE!! Fi and Antal maintain their tension, chemistry and conflict while also feeling like a solid couple ready to take on the world. And Maclean keeps things interesting between them without unnecessary betrayals or out-of-character decisions. They’re in love! They’re a power couple! And they’re still fun to read about!
I loved seeing these characters continue to grow and find new ways to strengthen their trust and intimacy. (And I’m only, like, 20% talking about the pegging scene.) HIGHLY recommend this conclusion to the duology to anyone who enjoyed Voidwalker!

Fi is the ideal FMC, bc she will stab someone with zero hesitation but will also respect their pronouns while threatening them.

This hit all the notes you could want from a sports fantasy romance! The hate-to-love pipeline was a delicious slowburn full of bickering and swooning, and there was a diverse cast of characters that felt vivacious and interesting with their own personal backgrounds and motivations.
The mix of fantasy and real-world elements was so fun, and the fake dating trope was executed with moments that legit had me cackling. Any romantasy fans looking for a standalone that feels like a breath of fresh air need to check this one out!
