felt a little underdeveloped and abstract. interesting to think about how this was published in 2021 basically right before the big chatgpt boom

i DEVOURED this book. this was ridiculously fun to read as a tennis player because i could picture all these intense matches in my head and the descriptions were fantastic. carrie is kind of evil and kind of an asshole but that just makes her all the more compelling a character with her growth throughout the story. i kinda saw the ending and epilogue coming but i am satisfied with it! i also really enjoyed that romance was not really part of the central plot. i was so emotionally invested the games were insane and i teared up at /that/ part. i saw they have a tv show in development and i hope it actually comes out!!

she’s evil but i’m obsessed with her. i’m having so much fun reading this as a tennis player since i can actually visualize all the terms and plays (to an extent because i was by no means a pro lol)

these two books were pretty similar to me i didn’t think this one was particularly better or worse. i liked the depiction of ilya’s depression and i wish we could’ve gotten that nuance/depth with shane’s relationship with food considering his extreme diet was mentioned 5 times a chapter and then magically resolved. also i need the show to take lots of creative liberties with the wedding because what the hell was that 😭 you can either do tiny intimate low-planning wedding or big extravagant wedding not both. why are you inviting 100 people with no chairs and only a string of lights as decor. why didn’t they know what a first dance was. Enough

I did not know this was part of a series but from what i can tell they’re standalones set in the same universe? I didn’t feel particularly attached to these characters or their romance. as a huge fan of the umbrella academy it was really hard to overlook all the little similarities (especially after seeing the author follows the show on instagram)… like was that on purpose? A time jumping Hargreaves (with a bunch of siblings and a strange upbringing) who is sent into the past and has to stop the apocalypse just felt a little too on the nose to TUA season 2 lol.

this was cute and i loved the art style! i love fall out boy and i also love daisy grenade so it was fun to see them make a cameo. also as one of the last standing daily bereal users the hospital scene where they all stop what they’re doing and bereal made me laugh out loud
