unfortunately this narrator isn't particularly good or feels right for the story. feels overly robotic a bit.

Honestly, I'm kind of in the middle where I didn't hate it nor was it offensively bad. I just ended up finding it a little bland and a little boring. The writing was great, and I really loved the author's debut. So, I had no problem connecting with it that way, but there also felt like something was missing. I genuinely think this might have worked better as a straight forward second chance romcom with a dash of rivalry.
Like in a sense, I got the rivalry part, but I just didn't buy their past history. It felt like it was so brief and they were so young that I couldn't believe Sadie was still so angry about it AND still acting like a horny teenager over him. Kind of tired of romance's skipping the slow burn and rushing right into it, or at least rushing right into the lust. Don't get me wrong, I will eat up some smut, but why is everyone always so horny to the point they can't wait like a minute. Sadie unfortunately got on my nerves a bit too much at times. Hate an immature fmc.
Despite my slight issues with it, it was still fun enough to keep me reading. It was enjoyable enough and a little funny and charming. Ryan and Sadie at least had really great chemistry. The slight hints of angst hit really well. I think maybe I just wanted something a bit different, which is fully a me problem and not at all on the story itself. I very rarely every get bored once a couple hooks up or gets together, but I found that to be the case here. I do think other's will really love this one.
Thank you to Berkley and netgalley for the e-arc.
