Huh.... I'm starting to dig the dynamic between Kaine and Helena, but my dislike for the Eternal Flame grows. Dislike both fractions, but understand that they're lesser of the two evils, but ugh the hypocrisy...

The angst is angsting. I hate, hate Morough. Kaine is a dick. Honestly the only character I like so far is Helena.

Okay, while the story is quite gripping it's quite hard to understand whom is whom, and which people belongs to which fraction, bring back glossaries and family trees as an addition to books. Overall, it's a little confusing but the mystery is what keeps me going.

Flash photography in the 1780s?? (page 552)

At the second solstice party in the flashbacks, theres a camera described as a "large intricate box hanging from (character's) neck" she fiddles with lenses a bit, then the box clicks and flashes. I'm assuming its an electric flash, and while I'm no expert I'm pretty sure electric flash cameras weren't invented until the 1920s. I know this isnt a one to one irl historical fiction, its fantasy, but that just doesn't fit with the beginning of the industrial revolution time period. This would imply photography being a very important part of their society for it to be developed so quickly, and this is the first mention of a camera.

Did anyone else notice this? Theres been one or two things i noticed before that seemed to be a decade or two before they were invented irl, but that i can easily suspend disbelief because its fantasy. 150 years, not so much!

Not much to say, things get cleared up, ferron is a dick, Helena is a fighter, Luc is not meant for this and annoys me, (he would be a good leader in a peaceful time, he's not a warlord), everyone sucks. Lol. I do kinda like Lila, but there hasn't been much of her for me to decide.

Whew, what a ride.. I do like Ferron, I despise Stroud, and all of the ending of part 1 was tough, but none of it is romanticised both are victims of the situation. I'm still confused about all the mancers though but it does not reduce the enjoyment of the story.

Soo.. I'm hooked, I'm in. I'm actually intrigued. I've only admittedly only ever skimmed through you-know-what, so I'm mostly in without any previous knowledge, and honestly it grabs you right in.
