Exquisitely sad, almost unbearable but beautiful, provocative, and strange. It’s a very short book without section or page breaks that keeps you buckled in despite how bleak and violent it is. I sort of hated the middle part of it but then I felt it redeemed itself in the end.

Slow simmering, complex, sit with your feelings and thoughts about what you know and don’t know about the most important people in your life, who happen to also be erased or ignored—women of color, immigrants, the working class, undocumented. A triumphant reclamation of personal identity after death, a metaphor for how we can keep going when all seems lost.

complicated, unflinching, richly unsettled, probes power and politics in the most intimate relationships
