Best Served Cold

I still feel like the author ran out of plot a book ago, but the publisher wanted a triology. The plot seems haphazard at best, but at least the title is accurate: we do get an abundance of in-world fairytales (...maybe to boost the page count??)
Also, while the writing doesn't differ in style or tone from the previous two books, I really think the author wrote herself into a corner with the journal format in the first book, and has struggled with it ever since. It just doesn't lend itself for suspense and action, we know Emily will be fine because she's writing everything down after the fact - and she reminds us of that frequently enough that we can't forget it.
The thing that saved the book for me was the characters, who are still their charming, silly selves. I empathised with Taran (and maybe the author did as well?) who is fond of the characters, but really, REALLY couldn't care less about anything else (like the plot, for example.)
I wouldn't really recommend this book to anyone other than hardcore fans of the series. But if you, like me, are a completionist and want to know how things end, I'd say the audiobook is the way to go - the narrators do a great job, and it's something nice to have on in the background while cleaning or doing laundry.

That being said, Emily & Co. are still very charming and entertaining :)
