the way I put a hold on this book six weeks ago and itās only now come in. Iām glad Emily Austin is so popular but itās very inconvenient for me personally lol
Emily Austin is probably the author Iāve read the most books from (her and Alice Oseman), and every time I start a new book of hers I feel right at home. her writing style has become so familiar to me, and I know Iām in good hands.
as someone who used to work in a library like the protagonist does, this is already bringing up memories of that time. yes: sometimes patrons do watch porn on the computers. no: I didnāt witness anyone having sex in the shelves (thank god!!) however, someone did pee in the elevator one time.

Anyone else reading something that they can't or won't log for any reason?
I'm reading a beta project (deadline approaching) and it's not out yet for me to log my reading. Which is a bit sad buy hey, at least I'm still reading! And I'm nearly done ^^
So, what are you reading in secret? Take this as your chance to boast!

What a fascinating sci-fi story! The future that Forster imagined here and the things he anticipated are incredible, considering that this story was published in 1909.
The Machine Stops is about a future where humanity lives underground in single rooms and relies on THE Machine to provide for all its needs. People don't leave their rooms unless it's necessary, which is rarely the case. Everything they need is available at the touch of a button and all social interactions take place electronically. The Machine is practically worshipped by many and those who step out of line will be punished with "Homelessness", which equals an execution.
According to Forster he was inspired by H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine". One of the travels into the future shows a world where humans have turned into naĆÆve childlike Eloi, who live in a seemingly perfect paradise. However, it is what lies underground that controls everything.
The Machine Stops is brilliant! Love the writing, the setting, the atmosphere. It's amazing how much Forster was able to convey in such a short novella. It's a must read, in my opinion, and it's a story that has never been more relevant than today. Things like the internet or instant messaging were predicted here. It's not my first read by Forster, I also enjoyed his books "Maurice" and "A Room with a View".

Dungeon Crawler Carl was exactly what I needed to get me out of a work-induced book slump (and 6 straight hours of processing fruit š„²) - it was fun, sardonic, and the audiobook did a brilliant job at bringing these characters to life.
As a fan of D&D, this hit all the right spots, and while the pacing and humour didn't always quite land for me, this was a really enjoyable read packed with funny moments and a silly but dynamic pairing.
