This book is amazing. I am a big fan of Frederick Josep’s writing and recommend his works to everyone. This book is no exception.
This is beautifully heavy. While it deals with a specific mental illness, I feel overall this book’s heart is the compassion that is learned along the way. This is what makes it beautiful. Everyone has an invisible battle that they are fighting and how we treat people can be helpful or hurtful.
I loved how the author navigated grief through Ella, her parents and side characters. I felt teary eyed through so much of the book. You can’t help but feel the raw emotions illustrated in this book.
I appreciated how therapy was depicted and loved how group therapy was portrayed. My partner is a psychologist and loves group therapy and feels that it’s an underused service so seeing it here and done well was incredible.
I keep thinking about how well the author showed that everyone has a story and that while we may make assumptions and judgements, we don’t know unless that person has shared. We don’t know what heaviness someone is carrying or holding on to.
This book would be a beautiful book to read with young people to discuss and hold important conversations on bullying and mental health.
Frederick Joseph, I will read anything you write.
Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for this eARC!
