My heart was longing for this book. Her language is rich, decadent and eases the reader into each and every one of her stories, no matter how fantastical, peculiar or tense. A familiar trait among all Mary Shelley's work is her maddening ability to surprise the reader with a sudden sense of urgency. I found myself pouring over the book, desperate to know with certainty the fate she was to bestow upon her protagonists.
My very favorites in this collection had to be the Heir of Mondolfo and Transformation. The tension throughout these stories refused to let me go and truly, I found this book hard to put down. I find it rare that a book of short stories is so consistent such as this one. This will make for a perfect Halloween read.
