While it doesn't necessarily mean that their adaptations are "better" than the source material, I'm curious about adaptations that stray from their source and end up more popular than it. The example that always comes to my mind is Blade Runner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. It's hardly a novel or surprising prospect that Dick's novel ends up adorned with big lettering for Blade Runner, but it's still funny nonetheless— primarily for the fact that Blade Runner is the far more popular/synonymous title for the source-adaptation pairing, rather than Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. You could also argue that Netflix's The Eternaut adaptation achieves a similar effect, but the series only just came out this year, so it's a little more difficult to really argue compared to something well into the past. Regardless, I was just curious if anyone had any other fun examples of similar situations where a movie or tv series ended up stealing the spotlight from the source material.

I'm curious what is people's thoughts on doing a TBR Roulette? Like I've thought of doing it to mix up my reading schedule but also I feel like it may not help since I fear I'll get a book that won't incentivize me to get back into reading more. Has anyone actually tried it before and have thoughts or if you haven't done it yet would you think you would enjoy it?

As someone who loves stats I'm always fascinated by numbers 👁️🗨️ What's your average rating for books? What kind of "book-rater" do you consider yourself to be, and does it match that average? And if you don't know your average, what do you feel like is the most common rating you tend to give books? I consider myself to not be a very harsh rater and my average sits at 3.91/5 stars, which is somewhat inconsistent with my impression of mostly giving out 3.5 stars 😂 I guess I've been handing more 4+ stars lately (or I just came across a bunch of books I really loved, which is also great 💖) What do your numbers look like? 👀

I feel like I'm losing my mind. I use Libby for almost all my reading and I rarely have a hard time finding a book on my TBR there. Sometimes I wait a long time but that's okay. But now I have an entire LIST of books not available there! And most of them were published about 5 or more years ago!! I'm sad. I have no book money right now (well, lol I have no money) so Libby is my only real source. Here's the books I can't find. If anyone has read these and can recommend something that might be close, let me know!!! "The God of Lost Words" by AJ Hackwith (book 3 of a trilogy where the other 2 were available!) "Thief of Night" by Holly Black (they have the first book but not the second!) "Tarnished City" by Vic James "Bright Ruin" by Vic James (They have book 1 but not 2 and 3?!) "The Plastic Magician" by Charlie N Holmberg (again they have the first 2 or 3 but not the last one?!) And don't even get me started on new books by authors they already carry. They don't have "Overgrowth" by Mira Grant. Don't have "Strange New World" by Vivian Shaw T. Kingfisher has a new one that I can't remember the name of and again, nope! I love libraries but it's HARD to read current/new authors exclusively through the library. :(

A bit about me: ✨ I’ve been reading since I was five, thanks to my mom buying me storybooks from the tiny bookstore near my school. I grew up surrounded by books—children’s classics in grade school, YA in high school, self-help in college. Now, it’s mostly romance and psychological thrillers, with a dash of fantasy for spice. ☕ I love coffee and rainy evenings, and I’m a night reader who devours chapters until early morning once the world goes quiet. 🖨️ I run a small printing business—stickers, photos, bookish goodies. Drop me a message if you need prints for your reading nook! ♑ I’m a triple Capricorn with an Aquarius stellium—think practical dreamer with a sprinkle of chaos, always planning but also randomly deciding to learn astrology at 2 AM. Say hi! I’d love to swap book recs and cozy reading vibes with you ✨

How soon into reading a book do you usually mark it as “currently reading” on any reading tracking sites/apps? I’m honestly just curious if other people wait until they’re further into a book to say they’re reading it. I know I have a few friends who will consider a book being ‘currently read’ when they finish their previous book and know what book they’re reading next. So they do it all in one go.

I'm currently using Goodreads, StoryGraph, Fable and Pagebound so I find it overwhelming to update everywhere after I finish a book! But I'm trying to use only pagebound and StoryGraph for now, one for conversations and the other for stats. So I'm wondering how many do y'all use and any other bookish apps other than trackers that's you find useful?

As someone who spends far too much time on ao3, I'm looking for ideas for tracking the fics I read. I've probably read around 15 book-length fics this year but they don't count towards my reading goal on here or storygraph. What do you all do?

I don't know what it is, but making very specific book lists is so much fun and addicting 😭. And like, figuring out what emojis to use?! Ugh LOVE it. Something about it calms my little anxiety-ridden brain. Anyone else?

I feel like there should be a way to restrict the viewing of explicit comments for minors.. there are plenty of spicy books that I’m sure people would want to talk about (possibly in detail) and I just think we could be able to mark those as explicit (like with spoilers) so as to speak freely without being concerned a kid is reading it. I don’t know if that makes sense or how it would work, but I think it could be beneficial to the overall community Thoughts? Ps. I know that plenty of minors read spicy books, I did too, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable commenting on a spicy scene online where I think a kid might unwittingly read it. I read lots of YA and if a kid follows me because of that, it could be a shock for them if I commented on something spicy

Is there a way to request quests? I'd love like a supernatural/vampire one but my page isn't loading any. Or is this a list kind of thing?

Assuming most of us here are adults, do you still read middle-grades? If you do, please recommend ones you think are worth a read even as an adult :)

Every so often I think about the novels I read a kid. I'm typically reminded of series that I read into my adolescence with much of Rick Riordan populating those memories, as well as the odd flicker of Eragon (typically as its movie adaptation). On the rare occasion though, The Ranger's Apprentice pops up, and reminds me of how much I loved the series despite how little staying power it has. Its just such a strong memory despite how uncommonly I mull over the experience, so I was curious to hear of any similar experiences that others might have. Are there other books that feel forgotten to both time and your own memories, but still hold a special place in your heart?

I'm heading to the cottage next week and looking for a good book or two to take with me. Think deep covered porch overlooking a lake. Hammock. Drinks. I'm looking for fantasy or thriller I think but I'll take any 6 star recs. I do have two kids, so I'll need to pick it up and put it down a bunch - so maybe nothing to complicated. Help please!
