  • Ethics of ARC Reads

Not sure if anyone’s asked this, but what are people’s thoughts about commenting on the forum when reading ARCs of the book? Because on one hand, I need to express my thoughts about the book and just want to fangirl (or hate). On the other hand, the book isn’t out yet, so I don’t know if it’s “right” to talk about a book that isn’t publically available yet.

But if anyone else are ARC readers, I’d love to know your thoughts about this!

  • book recs - tired of hea 😮‍💨

i’m typically a romance fiend, love a good fantasy, but i also love hurting my own feelings for fun? lately i feel like so much of what i read just feels very formulaic because the HEA is kind of expected and sometimes almost doesn’t feel earned. which i get it, it’s a staple of the genre, but also i’m tired and looking for something more interesting. and i’m not super interested in gore for the sake of gore, like things that exist just for shock value don’t really excite me unless i’m already really bought into what’s going on.

what i’m really looking for is something to hurt my feelings or break my brain irreparably, where the yearning is so painful i have to throw the book across the room like it burned me 🤩 i’m talking anguish that hits so hard i have to stop and curse the name of whoever told me to read it in the first place. i’m happy with an eventual happy resolution as long as no one emerges unscathed 🌟

basically please take this as an open invitation to ruin my life 🫶

things that HAVE managed to break my brain recently include all three locked tomb books, especially harrow, final fantasy xv, and the later chapters of witch hat atelier if that helps!

I'm loving this book but I'm scared about the end, since it's part of a trilogy. On one hand, I fear it will end with a cliffhanger and not knowing when the second book will be published is nightmarish. On the other hand, there's also the possibility that it has a self-conclusive end with a somewhat open finale. Which I would like but I feel we're too far behind to have that. I mean, I've already passed 60% but the plot doesn't feel 60% yet. I really hope the ending isn't rushed (I'm having this problem with a lot of books lately)
