  • For Readers who listen to music while reading ๐ŸŽง What Do You Listen?

    • Do You Listen to Book Playlist by Authors / Made by Readers? / Your Own Playlist? Or instrumental Music? ๐ŸŽน

I usually listen to my own playlist or book playlist made by Readers! But when itโ€™s raining, i would put jazz on youtube that fits with the weather vibe ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

  • Things in ROMANCE BOOKS that give me THE ICK

WHY do romance books keep giving us โ€œromanticโ€ moments that are actually just full-body ICKS ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ like sorry but if heโ€™s glaring at every guy who so much as breathes near youโ€ฆ thatโ€™s not hot, thatโ€™s controlling I get the jealously if she or he posted a picture with others and its like a close pic but really๐Ÿคจ?? Your gonna kill anyone who breathes the same air as her... ๐Ÿšฉ

like NO, I donโ€™t want a love interest who canโ€™t take no for an answer and keeps โ€œpersistingโ€ until she caves. thatโ€™s not devotion, thatโ€™s harassment with extra eyeliner.

also? when they never communicate their feelings but somehow expect the other person to read their mind??? EW. imagine falling in love with someone who acts like a puzzle box with bad Wi-Fi.

donโ€™t even get me started on the dudes who neg the girl constantly and itโ€™s framed as flirty banter. no bestie, thatโ€™s just rude.๐Ÿ˜’

romance authors pls understand: BASIC RESPECT IS SEXY. listening?? hot. apologizing?? hotter. actually supporting their partner instead of sulking like a man-child?? scorching.๐Ÿ˜

I want green flags, not emotional constipation dressed up as mystery. if your love interest acts like a red flag factory๐Ÿšฉ, Iโ€™m throwing the whole book across the room.

  • Whatโ€™s your go-to snack or drink when youโ€™re reading? ๐Ÿจ

I know some people who donโ€™t like snacking while theyโ€™re reading, which is also what I sometimes do! But if I would like to have a snack either: chocolate bar ๐Ÿซ or chips/popcorn ๐Ÿฟ! For drink: coffee โ˜•๏ธ or just water ๐Ÿ’ฆ! And if I'm at the coffee shop, I wouldnโ€™t mind eating whatever I get while I'm reading!

  • Do you read prologue or you skip it? Guilty or no guilty ๐Ÿคซ

I have to admit that i always skip prologue and jump to read chapter 1 ๐Ÿ‘€ edited: Why do I skip prologues and jump straight to chapter one?

    I mostly read ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ, and after reading a few prologues, I noticed they often ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—น things โ€” like the ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟโ€™๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—บ๐—ฎ, ๐—ฎ ๐—ณ๐˜‚๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฒโ€™๐˜€ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด, ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ โ€” all of which ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜‚๐—ฝ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ anyway. (This happens not just in dark romance, but in romance in general.)

So for me, whateverโ€™s in the prologue usually gets mentioned again in the chapters, which makes it feel unnecessary to read!

  • ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ“š READING SLUMPS: SOMEONE PLZZ KILL ME ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ˜ฉ

you ever look at your bookshelf like. wow. love of my life. eternal soulmate. emotional support collection. and still be likeโ€ฆ โ€œyeah but not right nowโ€ ??

    CONGRATS YOUโ€™RE IN A READING SLUMP ๐Ÿ˜ญ

idk what it is about reading slumps but they sneak up on you randomly. one day youโ€™re devouring 500 pages in a sitting, and the next??? you just canโ€™t get urself to sit down and read 50 pages without quitting.

and the worst part?? you STILL want to read. you still love books. youโ€™re just sitting there, staring at your TBR like it personally betrayed you and expecting it to fix itself.

๐Ÿง  itโ€™s giving: โ€” โ€œi want to read but nothing sounds goodโ€ โ€” โ€œiโ€™ll read after this episodeโ€ (10 episodes later: still no reading) โ€” โ€œi just need to find the right bookโ€ but the right book is in another dimension apparently

and then thereโ€™s the guilt. the unread books judging you from the shelf. the unfinished series. the friend who lent you a book six months ago and keeps politely asking if youโ€™ve โ€œhad a chance to start it yetโ€ ๐Ÿซ

๐Ÿšจ but hereโ€™s the TRUTH: reading slumps are NORMAL. they donโ€™t make you less of a reader. they donโ€™t mean you โ€œlost your love for books.โ€ itโ€™s just your brain hitting โœจ burnout โœจ and saying โ€œletโ€™s chill for a sec.โ€

๐Ÿค WAYS TO GENTLY UN-SLUMP YOURSELF (WITHOUT PRESSURE):

๐Ÿ“– reread an old favorite โ€” nostalgia is a powerful drug. find the book that made you feel unwell in the best way and revisit it. comfort reads are undefeated.

๐ŸŽง try an audiobook โ€” especially if youโ€™re in your โœจ i-have-no-attention-span โœจ era. listen while walking, cleaning, or laying in bed staring into the void. it counts.

๐Ÿ“š read something short โ€” novellas. graphic novels. poetry. books under 300 pages. weโ€™re rebuilding momentum, not running a marathon.

๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ romcoms will save you โ€” zero braincell reads with โœจbanter, chaos, and piningโœจ are a CURE. you will read 200 pages in one sitting and feel ALIVE again.

๐Ÿ’€ lean into the chaos โ€” mood read something unhinged. messy main character? fake dating? one bed? whatever sparks a little serotonin.

๐Ÿ” accept the slump โ€” sometimes you just gotta ride it out. watch a show. romanticize playlists. organize your bookshelves for no reason. itโ€™ll come back. it always does.

๐Ÿ“‰ WHAT NOT TO DO: โ€” force yourself to finish a book youโ€™re not into โ€” start five books at once hoping one will โ€œstickโ€ (youโ€™ll just feel overwhelmed ๐Ÿ˜ญ) โ€” guilt trip yourself like youโ€™re failing at a hobby

YOUโ€™RE NOT FAILING. youโ€™re literally just a tired reader. take a break. your books will wait for you. and when that one scene or that one quote finally hits again?? oh weโ€™re BACK. weโ€™re READING. weโ€™re OBSESSED.

๐Ÿ“ฃ ROMCOMS THAT HAVE GOT ME OUT OF SLUMPS: (warningโ€”these books may not work for some ppl so donโ€™t get mad)

๐Ÿ’˜ The Love Hypothesis โ€” fake dating, grumpy x sunshine, STEM girlies, and an emotionally constipated man who is secretly obsessed with her?? YES MAโ€™AM

๐ŸŽง Better Than the Movies โ€” childhood friends, romantic playlists, iconic YA energy, and a scene with a slow dance in the rain that lives in my head RENT FREE.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ The Cheat Sheet โ€” best friends to lovers, football star with a secret crush, and fake dating (again bc it always works). SO CUTE IT WILL HEAL YOU.

๐Ÿ“š ANYTHING BY LYNN PAINTER โ€” literally pick one. โ€” Mr. Wrong Number? โœจchaotic texting & messy girl repโœจ โ€” The Do-Over? โœจtime loop romance and emotional growthโœจ โ€” Better Than the Movies (yes again)? โœจpeak romcom nostalgiaโœจ โ€” Love Wager? โœจpure banter, zero stress, full joyโœจ

Lynn Painter writes books that feel like your favorite comfort movie.

๐Ÿ’ฌ drop your favorite slump buster books below โ€” like the ones that made you feel giddy, unwell, and suddenly fluent in book quotes again. weโ€™re building a โœจ healing list โœจ

  • Donโ€™t judge a book by its cover

Does anyone else feel like that applies to everything but books??๐Ÿ˜‚ For example, when iโ€™m on my kindle looking for stuff to read im not gonna pick the book that has a real person on it. I just canโ€™t do it hahah it has to be a cover that draws me in!! Same thing for book titles - i feel like i judge them heavily based on their titles too

  • Opinion on ๐ŸŒถ in books

What is your opinion about spicy scenes in books? I personally do not really like it. I don't mind allusions to intimacy between two characters but explicit scenes make me cringe a little bit .. especially because the description are so vulgar??? I happened to read few books that had sexual scenes in it and MAN I skipped the part after reading few lines because the descriptions were TERRIBLE ๐Ÿ˜ญ

  • Help, my age is showing ๐Ÿฅ€

Okay. In honor of today's featured emoji, it's time for me to set aside my pride and ask... ๐Ÿ˜”

What does ๐Ÿฅ€ mean?? How/when is it used?? I've tried googling it and have not received the help I need, it still feels like I'm missing something and seeing it in contexts I don't understand.

Also for another other late 20s folks around, pls lmk if y'all do or don't feel like you're with the times on little communication things like that. For the record, I feel confident with my understanding of ๐Ÿค right now so that's definitely a win, but on the other hand I am absolutely mystified by the diving/parting/coming out of curtains(??) move that I see the love island folks doing nonstop beyond having a suspicion its suggestive in nature. If y'all are also lost maybe we can have threads in the comments to explain these things finally...
