Probably my least favorite since book 1, it was just so long and full of so much training and battles and card game rules and this floor just felt kinda low-stakes to me! There are twists of course, but for most of the book, it feels like Carl & Donut aren’t in that much danger, just their friends, and not even the super close ones. (Maybe I just don’t feel close to those other characters?) A few particularly great moments, specifically with Carl & Donut’s relationship and the setup for Faction Wars. But I still felt constantly entertained, even with my personal disconnect with the greater cast of characters + the floor mechanics!

Why is the writing so vastly different from the first duet? Like the quality is so degraded - it's choppy at a mind boggling level compared to the first two. I understand creating a different voice for a different FMC, but completely losing all technical writing skills is NOT the same thing....
