I thought the first one was poorly written but at least fun! This felt too poorly written to be fun most of the time🙃 the sexuality felt soo forced and out of place, creepy through the first half of the story, and pretty cringy overall. The amount of stupidity and ignorance required to drive the plot forward was staggering. The whole thing felt like it didn’t make sense! I can suspend a lot of disbelief in a fantasy world, but the nonsense choices and characters’ incongruencies from book to book and chapter to chapter were a bit too much for me.
The plot was constantly moving which I appreciated, and some parts were enjoyable! But overall the book felt disjointed and too full of nonsensical decisions to be taken seriously.
Wanted more vampires, more interesting trials, more challenges for the characters to face, more emotional intimacy from our MCs, a few less trendy phrases like “abs for days”, and fewer instances of the words ministrations, maelstrom, heady, and the phrase “with brutal efficiency”
I love so many of these tropes but they’re just not executed well enough for me. I’m not sure I’ll pick up book 3 when it’s out.
